They decided to put their decade plus of Girl Scouting experience and their love for the environment together and organized a week long junior day camp. Each put in over 200 hours into the project. There were 140 campers, 50 older girl staff running 16 units and a compliment of adults to meet the required adult to girl ratios. The campers earned found badges/patches - Science in Action, Oil Up, Weather Watch and the Save The Bay patch. Both Megan and Lauren took on two badges/patches focus on making them interesting and fun for the girls. All details of the weeklong camp program were the focus for the nine months leading up to the project - everything from purchasing materials to the daily schedule to directions for each station. Among many other activities, campers had a visit from a local Meteorologist, learned about cleaning up oil spills and spent Friday night camping under the stars. Throughout the week the campers and staff had opportunities to participate in service projects.
